The clean beauty trend has gained popularity recently. More and more health and beauty companies are focusing on their ingredients, ethical practices, and sustainability. Here are five companies and their products that are hitting all the marks!

Lush- Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Retail price: $10.95-$11.95

Lush created these bars as a way to eliminate the plastic containers that shampoo and conditioner normally come in. All of their shipping materials are recyclable. In the bars, Lush uses mostly natural ingredients, with a few safe synthetic ingredients. Lush does not test their products on animals, they ethically source their materials, and they use vegetarian or vegan alternatives instead of animals products.

The shampoo bars come in a variety of scents and purposes. My favorites (based solely on the name) are: Brazilliant, Honey, I Washed My Hair, Jason and the Argan Oil, and Seanik. The Brazilliant shampoo bar smells like oranges and focuses on managing thick and curly hair, while the Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar smells like rose and strengthens hair, while giving it a silky, smooth feel. To use an of the shampoo or conditioner bars, simply rub into your hair, or onto your hands, massage into your hair, and rinse out.

The Honesty Company- Everything Primer- Glow

Retail price: $21.99

The Honest Company was founded by actress, Jessica Alba, who focuses on using ingredients that are good for consumers. They use hypoallergenic ingredients and no harmful chemicals, which includes over 1,300 chemicals that have been banned by the European Union for use in cosmetics. The Honest Company also does not test their products on animals, and they focus on making sure their products don’t get damaged during the shipping process, which would waste the product.

The Everything Primer Glow can be used under foundation or alone. It preps the skin for foundation, and doesn’t dry out your skin. A small amount will be enough to cover your face, and like almost all make-up, avoid contact with your eyes.

Thayer’s- Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner

Retail price: $3.99 (travel size)

Thayer’s was founded in the early 1800’s by Henry Thayer, who was trained in medicine by his father, a doctor. Henry Thayer focused on using all-natural products, and the company has kept their focus the same. Their famous Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is extracted from the leaves, bark, twigs, and stems of the Witch hazel plant.

Witch hazel is a natural astringent, which cause body tissues to constrict, or tighten. Witch hazel is used to close pores on the face and controls oil production. The combination of rose petals and Witch hazel helps remove blemishes and strengthens skin cells.

Tata Harper- Boosted Contouring Eye Mask

Retail price: $125.00

I know, this one is expensive, but Tata Harper uses all-natural, organic ingredients that they grow on their farm. They also make all their products by themselves. Like all the other products in this article, Tata Harper does not test on animals, and they focus on recyclable packaging. The majority of their products are contained in glass, which is recyclable. Any plastic they do use is eco-friendly (it’s made from corn, which is sustainable and biodegradable, instead of being made from petroleum, which is not sustainable and not biodegradable).

This eye mask target dry skin, lines and wrinkles, and the bags under your eyes from the late night study sessions. It comes in a glass jar, and to use, massage a thick layer around your eye, as often as needed.

Avalon Organics- Coconut Hand and Body Lotion

Retail price: $8.99

Avalon Organics uses organic ingredients in all of their products, which makes sense considering they have the word “organics” in their name. What their name doesn’t mention is that all of their products are biodegradable, meaning they’ll break down into their original compounds, which happen to be natural. They also don’t use GMOs, parabens, or synthetic fragrances in their products, which means that the fresh coconut smell is real. All of their packaging is recyclable, and they use sustainably sourced cardboard. The brand was inspired by the words of a Welsh Cleric named Geoffrey of Monmouth. He said “The fields of Avalon have no need of the ploughs of the farmers and all cultivation is lacking except what nature provides”.

The Coconut Hand and Body Lotion focuses on moisturizing dry skin by restoring the skin’s natural lipid balance. The combination of Coconut oil, Aloe Vera, Avocado oil, Vitamin E, and Shea butter helps hydrate dry skin immediately. To use, massage into the skin.
