HC: How long have you two been together?
Him: 8 years
Her: 8 years
HC: How/where did you two meet?
Him: Kindergarten
Her: Kindergarten
HC: First impressions?
Him: “This girl always wants to sit by me.”
Her: “He is such a cutie!”
HC: What are your favorite qualities about each other?
Him: Everything. I love how nice, compassionate, and understanding she is to me and everyone else. I love how we can joke around together and how she doesn’t get jealous.
Her: He is a true gentleman; he can always cheer me up when I am down, even if I am at the end of my rope. I love how he is so nice to everyone and how he doesn’t judge people. He is respectful and sweet, but also doesn’t let people walk all over him. I love how good he is with little kids and how awesome of a big brother he is to his 5 younger siblings. I love how smart he is in engineering and math. My all-time favorite quality would have to be that he is a caring, sweet, tender man packaged in a masculine body.
HC: What would you say is your favorite memory of one another?
Him: Road trips! All of our road trips.
Her: Last summer’s camping trip! We drove for about 4 hours, and it was so much fun to roll the windows down, sing, and just enjoy each other’s’ company. We were following the GPS and it took us to a “minimum maintenance road.” We decided to try it, even though it said “travel at your own risk.” Well, it was definitely minimally maintained and if you have ever seen the movie “Wrong Turn,” that was what this road was like. I was just waiting for the imbed hillbillies to kill us, but thankfully, we made it out ok. When I am with Brettain, I feel that anything could happen and we’d be ok (except for being attacked by the imbed hillbillies of “Wrong Turn.”)
HC: Any pet peeves of one another?
Him: When she leaves time on the microwave and when she doesn’t shut her water bottle, because she always spills it.
Her: When he has his music up really loud when I am trying to study.
HC: What’s your favorite thing to do on/around campus together?
Him:Â Ordering pizza and watching movies together on Friday nights after a long week.
Her: Going to the free movies by Blue Devil Productions, walking down the Red Cedar Trail, going to the devil’s punch bowl, and just ordering pizza and watching movies on Friday nights.
HC: What was your first date experience with each other?
Him: Going on trips for band, does that count? We’d always sit by each other at the events and on the bus.
Her: I suppose our first real “date” was when my parents took us to see the movie “1,000 B.C.” We sat in the back of the car holding hands (discreetly, of course), and then kissed when we dropped him off at his house.
HC: If you could give any dating advice to a new couple, what would it be?
Him: Work through rough patches together and listen to each other.
Her: Be open to discussion and communicate! I really think that communication and being open to discussion is the key to making a relationship work. Whether it is sex, money, family, or friends; being able to communicate is crucial to making a relationship work. And, as Brettain said, listening is also important.
HC: Anything else you want people on campus to know about you two?
Him: No one thought that we would last because we starting dating in middle school. But look at us; we’re still together and going strong.
Her: People have mistaken us for brother and sister before. Awkward.
