President Donald Trump has just finished his first 100 days in office, a milestone that every president since Franklin D. Roosevelt has had their success judged upon. Trump’s first 100 days are a mixed bag, involving some deliveries on campaign promises, but also failed motions, resignations, and a lot of angry tweets.Â
Things that Trump has accomplished:
Withdrew from TPP
Through an executive order made shortly after being elected, President Trump fulfilled his promise of withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an international trade deal that would have allowed for NAFTA-like free trade between 12 nations.
Cut funding for environmental programs/climate change action
Trump has been consistently rolling back environmental protections put in place by President Obama, which includes cutting funding for the National Parks Service, leading to a twitter revolt by some angry scientists.
Nominated a Supreme Court JusticeÂ
On January 31st, Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, fulfilling his duty to appoint a conservative justice to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Got Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines back
In March, Trump reversed Obama’s decision on the Keystone XL pipeline, allowing its construction.
Tweeted nearly 1000 times
According to The Guardian, Trump sent 993 tweets during his first 100 days in office.
Things that Trump has NOTÂ accomplished:
A tax overhaul
One of his many campaign promises, an overhaul to the current tax plan has been completely scrapped, and a new one is just now in its early stages.
Renegotiate or withdraw from NAFTA
The North American Free Trade Agreement is still in place, and the administration is still working on conditions for renegotiation.
Ban Syrian refugees and immigrants from “terror prone regions”
Trump’s first attempt to block immigrant travel was shot down by the courts, as was his revised second attempt.
Building the wall
No construction has started, but the government has been soliciting bids. Mexico is not going to pay for it.
Repeal and replace ObamacareÂ
The bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a new program was pulled from Congress because it lacked support. It is likely that a revised bill is coming.
“Draining the swamp”
It seems that corruption in Washington hasn’t been eliminated, rather replaced with different kinds of corruption.
Staying away from the golf courseÂ
“Because I’m going to be working for you, I’m not going to have time to go play golf,” President Trump told a Virginia rally in August. “Believe me.” So far he has gone golfing at least 13 times since becoming president.
It’s obvious that Donald Trump is a polarizing President, and his first 100 days reflect that. What to expect from his next 100 days is anyone’s guess.
