Fashion isn’t just about innovative designs or well-constructed garments—it’s about giving back to those in need. Retailers have always been giving back to charities and impoverished nations; however, some are going the extra mile. For them it’s not about making a good name for themselves or increasing their sales, it’s about making a difference in the world. Check out some of the awesome things these retailers are up to:
Kate Spade
In 2005 Kate Spade launched the Women for Women International program. This program aims to provide women in disadvantaged countries with the proper education and life skills needed to succeed. Check out this video clip for more information:
American Apparel
In response to the 2008 passing of Proposition 8 American Apparel launched the “Legalize Gay” campaign. They believe in equality for people of all sexual orientations and are currently working to prevent and protest the affiliated violence and discrimination from non-supporters.
Warby Parker
Similar to the shoe company, Toms, Warby Parker abides by the “buy one give one” program. For every pair of glasses purchased from their website they donate a pair to those who cannot afford them. So far, they’ve donated over 500,000 pairs.
H&M
This Spring H&M will be partnering with Ever Manifesto, a sustainable design company, to produce environmentally-friendly products for the line “Ever Conscious.” Everything will be ethically sourced and made of sustainable fabrics; plus everything will be offered at a reasonable price point.
