Homecoming King Nominee: De’Andre Jones

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Name:  De’Andre Jones

Major: Family & Consumer Sciences Education

Year: Junior

Hometown: Austin, Texas

Relationship status: Dating

HC: Why did you run for Homecoming royalty?

DJ: It was actually on accident. We were discussing possible candidates when I chimed in stating that I was my high schools homecoming king. I then jokingly said that I would probably be good competition because of my involvement on campus. The guys immediately soaked it up and next thing I knew I was at the royalty meeting! Really excited to participate in this week’s activities.

HC: What would winning mean to you?

DJ: Winning would be an honor. Being a representative for Pi Lambda Phi, which as you know is a newer fraternity on campus; I think would show how dedicated we are to the Stout community. For me, I have always thought of a crown/sash as a blessing. People tend to get caught up in the title. The reality of it is that yes those material things are nice, but what’s important is what you do during the time of your reign. If I was to win, I would still be myself, I would continue my involvement on campus, and I would encourage others who would consider themselves “the underdog” to take a chance and run for royalty next year. You never know what could happen!

HC: How have you been campaigning to become royalty?

DJ: Currently through word of mouth, and from promoting on Facebook!Which you can follow my page and receive updates all week about how the activities are going:https://www.facebook.com/events/319289991584038/?context=create&previousaction=create&ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming&source=49&sid_create=822796097

HC: What do people say is your best quality?

DJ: Typically my smile! Or the fact that I have an obsession with fragrances and always smell good.

HC: How are you involved in campus? If not, do you want to become more involved?

DJ: Currently I am the Vice President of Recruitment for Pilam, student mentor for the Aspire program, Events Coordinator for the Qube & GSA, BDA, and a member of the Stout Association of Family & Consumer Sciences.

HC: Where do you see yourself 5-10 years from now?

DJ: I hope to be teaching at the high school level, or working in student affairs at a university. Hopefully married and having kids.

HC:  Who is the main influence on your life?

DJ: My family and friends.

HC: If you were given a large amount of money, what is the first thing you would spend it on?

DJ: A CAR! Ha! I miss having one of my own!

HC: What is your ideal first date experience?

DJ: My ideal first date experience is anything spontaneous. Why plan something that probably won’t go as planned? Whether that be going for a walk through the city or staying in with take-out and watching a movie. I like to be surprised.

HC: What is an ultimate deal breaker in a relationship?

DJ: Hands down, CHEATING! On a scale of 1-even, I CAN’T! That’s that stuff I don’t like!

HC: If you could develop any superpower, what would it be?

DJ: Teleportation or Super Speed! I say that because I am always so busy, so being able to save some travel time would be amazing.

HC: Favorite place on campus?

DJ: My favorite place on campus would be the second floor of the MSC near fireside café! In the winter I love to go and study by the fireplace. It’s very calming.
