Meet Next Year SWEA President, Mariah Hinz

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Name: Mariah Hinz

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Waunakee, WI

Major: Early Childhood Education

1.Why did you choose Stout?

I chose Stout because it seemed like the perfect fit for me. I’m a small town girl so I knew I didn’t want anything too big, plus, it had my major

2.What’s your favorite thing about Stout?

My favorite thing about Stout is that it is a polytechnic university. I am a very visual, hands-on person so getting the experience in my classes and not just sitting through lecture every day is an aspect that is hard to beat.

3.Can you tell Her Campus a little about SWEA?

St. WEA stands for the Student Wisconsin Education Association. It is for any and all educators to get involved with other future educators and to learn more about Wisconsin teacher’s union. We work with the local Menomonie schools and get great hands-on experience of working with children!

4.What made you want to be a part of the board for SWEA?

I knew that taking on a leadership position, especially in this organization, would really benefit me and give me some great experience with education.

5.What will be some of your responsibilities as the president?

As President I will plan meetings, plan fundraising and volunteer opportunities, answer and engage in state requirements such as monthly board reports and board of directors meetings. Also, my biggest job will be planning the Scholastic book fair that is hosted on campus.

6.Where do you see yourself after graduation?

After graduation I hope to be teaching in a first grade classroom
