Sophomore guard John Keefe looks to get around Buena Vista defense Saturday night, December 5th.Â
Buena Vista University Down Blue Devils
The Buena Vista Beavers seemed to be too much for the Blue Devils Saturday, December 5th. The Beavers beat out Stout 96-80, 52 of those points being from behind the three-point line. With the score being only 38-32 at halftime, Stout was still in the game.Well that was until the Beavers went 10 for 14 on three-pointers. Their shooting average from behind the arc was a high percentage of 0.714. There’s only so much the Blue Devils could have done in this situation. Leading the scoring column for the Blue Devils was sophomore John Keefe with 24 points. Keefe also had six assists, five rebounds, and one steal. Not far behind was sophomore Joen Patterson with a career-best of 19 points.Â
The next game for the men’s basketball team is not until December 15th against University of Northwestern- St. Paul at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
Men’s Hockey Splits a Pair of Games
The Thursday, December 3rd, evening game seemed to be a tough one for the men’s hockey team as they lost to University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. Being such huge rivals, the loss hurt even more when Eau Claire scored seven goals without a single response from the Blue Devils. However, the Blue Devils turned it around on the following day. Stout hosted University of Wisconsin- Superior and beat them 6-2. Was it the heart-wrenching loss against Eau Claire that woke Stout up? Six of the goals were scored by six different players on the roster. Stout gained the lead just four minutes into the first period when senior Danny Ray took advantage of the power play and found the back of the net. UW-Superior scored the next two goals and took the lead six minutes into the second period. Feeling the game slip away yet again, the Blue Devils kicked it into high gear and tied the game just 27 seconds later. It was junior Shane McLaughlin that scored the next goal and the Blue Devils remained in the lead for the rest of the game. Also scoring in the second and third period was Craig Lindegard, Karl Anderson, and Jake Useldinger. It was their first conference win of the season! Although the first night didn’t go as well, it’s good to see that Stout still has some fight left.
Now, hopefully Stout will be able to take this energy into their games against Concordia- Moorhead and St. Olaf College on Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th respectively at Fanetti Community Center in Menomonie. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
