This time of year school can be a little bit overwhelming with struggling grades, staying on top of everyday tasks, and at least attempting to maintain a social life. Life can get pretty crazy in the midst of things and almost seem like a repetitive routine. Sometimes we just need a therapeutic outlet where we can get out all of our stress, emotions, and thoughts. I have found myself drowning in a to do list since the semester began and had to figure out my own peaceful getaway without actually getting away. It’s a fun little secret that I’m going to share and it’s ART. That’s right, art! It’s perfectly designed for us to pour out our feelings and have the one thing that seems impossible for us girls, control. Here are just a few artsy ideas from my peaceful fun remedy of relaxation. Â
Painting- Painting is fun and easy. We do it everyday without knowing when we put our makeup on! It allows our creative minds to put color onto a blank canvas whether its traditional acrylic painting, splatter painting or my personal favorite a “Dirty Pour.” When I paint I become so focused and relaxed.I have total control over my own work. Sometimes it’s even fun to not have control and just let it splatter into a beautiful mess! I can be alone and get all of my inward thoughts out to the canvas and let the picture take me where I want to go! You don’t have to be Picasso to add color to your life, you just need a few tubes of paint and a brush.

Here is a personal dirty pour I did a few days ago.

Ceramics- I absolutely love ceramics! It lets you get all dirty in a classy way. You start with clay and just build it anyway you want. You get to feel the emotion of shaping it and specifying every little piece until it’s perfect. My favorite type of sculpture in clay is Modern because it actually defies the rules of art by making it asymetrical or rebelling by taking away its function. It also reminds me of our creator as I fashion the clay around and all the work I put in. I remember how God has fashioned us the same way taking pride in his masterpiece. When I make ceramics I love to blast music and just feel my way around it

Drawing – drawing and doodling are so fun. I used to be terrible at drawing until I took a class and it showed me that our minds especially as women are designed to see things as they are supposed to be seen rather than what they actually look like. Once I understood and trained my brain to know my drawings don’t have to be perfect and just drew things the way I saw them, I surprised myself with a new talent! The best part about drawing is you can do it anywhere! Whether its while waiting in line for starbucks, hanging out in your room taking a break from homework, or even in a boring class that sends you the notes online (we all know nobody pays attention in those classes)

Art can be so therapeutic for the soul. It allows our beautiful creative-selves to be different. There’s no shame in needing a little bit of an outlet, I know I do. So if you’re only one coffee or study session away from a breakdown, try something creative and new! You might even surprise yourself! What is your favorite artsy outlet? Comment below and let me know!
