5 Albums 2022 Graced Us With

2022 was a huge year for new music from some heavy hitters, like Beyonce, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift. I, however, have a taste in music that varies from the top ten lists that many major music magazines have published. So, I present my top  albums that we were graced with in 2022.

BRIGHTSIDE by the Lumineers

The Lumineers started the year off strong by releasing their fourth album, Brightside, on January 14th, 2022. The optimistic feel of this album felt like a strong way to start, with songs like “WHERE WE ARE” and the titular track “BRIGHTSIDE.” In a time where nothing was certain, this album felt like a warm hug and a pat on the back.

Jaime’s Top Picks: “BRIGHTSIDE,” “WHERE WE ARE,” and “A.M. RADIO”

Bronco by Orville Peck

I was never the biggest country fan, and I tend not to listen to modern country outside of Tyler Childers’ and Taylor Swift’s re-recordings, but Orville Peck’s second album, Bronco, was in my top five most-listened to albums of 2022, which was surprising seeing as it was released April 8th, 2022.

This album is bold, with a sort of nostalgic feel, like listening to old country. Orville Peck’s deep and powerful voice mixed with the incredible storytelling in his songs make for an incredible album.

Top Picks: “Hexie Mountains,” “All I Can Say,” and “Kalahari Down”

Here’s To The End- EP by Anna Bates

So, this isn’t technically an album, but I don’t care. Anna Bates’ EP discusses her religious upbringing and personal experiences, and her beautiful voice makes this EP truly haunting.

Top Picks: “Holy Smokes,” and “Last Man on Earth”

NATHAN by Brotherkenzie

Written in 2020 and released in 2022, this album is brutally honest, and you’re strung along for the ride. With a more of a sci-fi sound in comparison to his previous albums, this album deserves so much more recognition than it’s been getting.

Top Picks: “BIKE NO MORE,” “OVERGIVER,” “DADDY,” “WAKING UP TUNE”

Stick Season by Noah Kahan

This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned this album, and it certainly won’t be the last.

A demo of “Stick Season,” the lead single off of the album, blew up on TikTok, proving that social media is good for something.

This album is a window into Noah Kahan’s mind, discussing a love/hate relationship with your hometown, therapy, and mental health in a very candid way.

I personally think this album contains some of his best songs to date, such as “The View Between Villages,” and “Growing Sideways.”

Top Picks: “The View Between Villages,” “Everywhere, Everything,” and “She Calls Me Back”
