Flaunting Evening Wear on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

The Winter semester is always packed with events and galas. This Friday, February 26th, is our own Her Campus Awards Night! The Psychology Students’ Association is also having their gala on February 26th, The School of Creative Arts’ Disco Ball is on March 18th, and The Odette Gala: Puttin’ on the Ritz is on April 2nd.

Friends, classmates, professors, alumni, and influential people show up at these events, making it important to attend. If you want to make a good impression, personality is number one. However, appearance definitely counts. As a student who can barely afford ramen noodles, here are some ways I have found to save cash and still look flawless.

1)      Work with what you have

This is especially true if you’re a student from out of town. Chances are there’s something you can wear that no one local has seen before. If not, try different accessories like bold shoes or a necklace to change the look of an old dress!

2)      Thrift Shopping

So many girls only wear a dress once then give it away. These dresses are usually super cheap at second-hand stores.

3)      Raid Sale Racks

There will be a lot of dresses that disappoint you, but if you pick through the sale racks you’ll probably find a great dress hidden between other articles.

4)      Go Online

If you have time for shipping and don’t have worries about the fit or possible alterations, there are a ton of websites offering beautiful dresses at super low prices.

If your budget isn’t that tight and you’ve got more cash to work with, you can use these tips anyway and splurge on a new pair of heels, a fancy clutch, or some jewelry to pull your look together!

See you at the Awards Night, collegiettes!
