Lauren Sharpley discusses her new organization on campus, Love146

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

Lauren Sharpley, a second year student, has started a new group at the University of Windsor called Love146. Her Campus was able to interview this young individual and find out more about what Love146 is, what they do, and how you can get involved. Her Campus asked Lauren her reasons for starting the group, and what she hopes to accomplish. Ā Starting a group for a cause that you feel passionately about is a great way to help others. There is always something to be done and something you can be doing, whether joining groups such as this, or creating your own.

Read about what Lauren’s group is doing, and find out how you can get involved!

1. Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Lauren Sharpley, I am a second year criminology student minoring in business. I grew up in Pickering, Ontario, I am an only child, and I am 19 years old.Ā

2. Can you tell us a bit about the group you started Love146?

Love146 is an international organization aimed at abolishing child sex slavery. They do so by prevention education, survivor care, and professional training. A lot of their work goes towards survivor care which entails the holistic care of every child who enters their two facilities. One is a boys shelter and the other is a Round Home for girls; both are located in the Philippines. The local Love146 groups are called Task Forces, they are in charge of raising funds for the organization and spreading awareness and education on the issue.

3. What do you hope to do with this group?

I hope to gain a group of dedicated individuals who are as passionate about this issue and organization as me. I would like for this organization to continue at the University of Windsor after I have graduated, and to see that we are able to make a difference and contribute to Love146.

4. Why did you decide to start it?

There was a Task Force that I was a part of at my high school, so that is how I knew about the organization. I decided to start on at the University because I read a story about Windsor and Amherstburg who were involved in a provincial wide child pornography ring, which upset me very much and reminded me of the organization at my high school.

5. How can people get involved?

There is a Facebook page as well as a Facebook group. You can learn more about the organization at www.love146.org. Our Facebook page is ā€˜Love146– University of Windsorā€™. If you would like to become a member, you can ask to join the official group which is ā€˜Love146 University of Windsor Task Forceā€™.
