First, tell me something fascinating about yourselves, something that might not be very well-known.
A: One thing that is not well-known about me is I like to decorate cakes and cupcakes.
B: When people ask me to tell them something about myself, I never know what to say! This morning I re-watched Homeward Bound for the first time in over 10 years, where I completely ugly-cried. It was bad.
After becoming members of the Her Campus team, what inspired you to apply for the positions of Campus Correspondent?
A: After becoming a member of the HC team, Lucy and Cacey announced that they were stepping down and we would be in need of two new CCs. I thought about it for quite a while, but it just sounded like fun. Plus, I would get to plan events.
B: Being on the team was so much fun. I loved the other members and the complete freedom to write about anything we want. When the position of campus correspondent became available, I just knew I had to go for it! I’ve always enjoyed leadership positions and I knew this would be a lot of work but also a lot of fun. So far its been just that and more!
What have you learned so far from being in charge of the University of Windsor’s Her Campus chapter?
A: I’ve learned that there is a lot more work involved than you would think. You kind of need to be a jack-of-all-trades. I’ve also learned that with a great co-CC and a great team, there are many possibilities. It’s quite rewarding.
B: So far I’ve really learned how to time manage and the importance of deadlines. I’m learning what works when you’re trying to run a team full of very creative people with their own individual ideas. As we go, we continue to learn something new every day, like what supplies to bring to a clubs week booth (tape, tablecloth, and food), or how to properly get funding or manage a budget.
What are some things you think potential members should know before joining the HC UWindsor team?
A: Some things I think potential members should know is that it is a commitment (it’s like if you were working for a real magazine) and you should have a passion for what you do.
B: Potential members should know that we do run on tight deadlines. There’s a certain amount of content and posting we have to do each week that only gets done if each member plays their role. Team work is a big factor here as well, despite majority of the work being independent. So basically if you can manage to do things in a timely fashion and are a great team player, you’ll do just fine!
How do you plan to add (or continue to add) your own personal touch to this Her Campus chapter?
A: I plan to add my personal touch through upcoming events, articles, and team bonding activities.
B: The chapter calls for total creative freedom which I completely love. As we go on, we learn what works and what doesn’t, and (we) make changes accordingly so we can best accommodate for our members!
What would you like to see for this Her Campus chapter in the future?
A: I would like to see this chapter becoming more known on campus, hosting some awesome events, and having our team members become close.
B: My biggest goal this year for our chapter is to increase our readers. We’re not very well-known on campus yet, and I really want to change that!
What has been your favourite Her Campus memory so far?
A: My favourite HC memory so far was getting to interview Windsor Hanger Western last year for campus celeb.
B: I don’t have a specific favourite memory, but whenever the team is together we always seem to have a good time. If it’s in meetings or doing an event, we’re always laughing and joking with each other. I love how well we all fit together.
Would you say that the nature of your relationship is more like Batman and Robin or Batman and Superman?
A: This is hard because I don’t know enough about superhero relationships to make a comment, but Bryanna and I balance each other out in many ways and we make a good team. Therefore, I’m going to guess Batman and Superman (neither of us are really a sidekick).
B: I’d say we’re pretty Batman and Superman. We both bring the same amount of ideas and enthusiasm to the table and go home with the same amount of work. I know there’ve been tons of times where Alanna’s done something for me that I wouldn’t have been able to do. I’m really glad she’s my partner, I wouldn’t be able to run the show without her.
