Everyone loves a good Netflix show. Personally, it is my favorite streaming program and I would estimate that I spend hundreds of hours on Netflix per year. As I have spent extensive time on Netflix, I have amassed a list of my favorite shows to binge watch and re-watch. Whether you are feeling bored, sad, or in need of a great new show to binge watch, I hope the list below will be helpful in your Netflix endeavors.Â
- Gilmore Girls
-
Gilmore Girls is the ultimate comfort show. It has such a warm and sentimental vibe. Gilmore Girls makes me feel proud to be a daughter and granddaughter. The show is funny, witty, heartwarming and so much more. It is also relatable for University students as we follow the main character, Rory, through her journey from adolescence into adulthood. Gilmore Girls is a show that you can watch casually, and one of my favorites to re-watch on a rainy day.
- The Walking Dead
-
I absolutely love The Walking Dead and have since I was in highschool. This show brings me back and makes me feel safe. The Walking Dead is gritty, action-packed, emotional and comedic. It has great heroes, and even greater villains. It follows a group of survivors during a zombie apocalypse. It also has many spin offs with fan favorite characters, so you are sure to never run out of new episodes to watch in The Walking Dead universe. Whenever I’m feeling bored, I’m always sure to turn on The Walking Dead.
- Breaking Bad
-
Breaking Bad lives up to all the hype. It has dynamic and lovable characters, as well as hateable enemies. Personally, I think Breaking Bad speaks about the human condition, and what excessive money, power, and greed can do to a person’s soul. Breaking Bad is jam-packed with tension, action, fight-scenes, and more. This is a show that will never leave you feeling bored. Every couple of months, my dad and I like to sit down and re-watch some Breaking Bad episodes together.
- Love is Blind
-
Love is Blind is a Netflix show that I watch almost everyday. I like to put it on in the background as I do my school work; I find it helps keep me entertained yet focused while trudging through the bores of note taking. Love is Blind is a reality show where people get engaged without having seen each other, but rather after only speaking through a wall. The goal is that at the end the couples will get married and live happy lives together. This show is full of drama, romance, and conflict. New seasons also come out very rapidly, so you’ll never have to wait too long for more. Love is Blind is a great motivator that’s been helping me get through this semester.
- Black Mirror
-
Black Mirror is the craziest show I have ever seen. Sometimes after watching it, I need to take a break to stare at the wall and ponder over what I had just watched. Each episode is about a different story, each having its own individual plot. Black Mirror shows the dangers of technology in a horrifying way. Some episodes are chilling, some full of action, some mysterious, but all are ominous and can leave you feeling shocked. I recommend watching Black Mirror when you are in the mood for something impactful; something you won’t forget. Some episodes may be triggering, so it’s always best to read the ratings and reviews online before viewing.
- The Queen’s Gambit
-
The Queen’s Gambit is not for everyone. It is about a young girl’s adventure into the world of chess. This show made me feel so smart while watching it. It is full of strategy, drama, rivalry and includes issues of substance abuse and trauma. I really liked this show and it has inspired me to be on my A game academically. The Queen’s Gambit is the perfect show to watch when you want to feel like an intellectual, while being entertained.
All in all, I hope my Netflix suggestions prove useful to you. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of these Netflix series, and I ensure that you will too!
