What To Do When You’re Anti-Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year. At least it is if you’re into sappy gifts, pink and red, chocolate, and clichés. Personally, I think that Valentine’s Day is a corporate scam. If you agree, here are some ways that you could celebrate Anti-Valentine’s Day.

Celebrate the most important person in your life – yourself. Buy yourself chocolates, watch your favourite movies, sit around in pj’s, give yourself a manicure, or anything else you want to do to spoil yourself. After all, you can’t truly love anyone else until you love yourself first.

Find a friend and pretend you’re a couple just to take advantage of Valentine’s Day specials at your favourite restaurants. This includes taking full advantage of desserts.

Join a volunteer organization if you’re not already part of one and sell candy grams to raise money. If corporations can use the day to get money, so can your favourite organization. Ever heard the phrase “if you can’t beat them, join them”?

If you’re in a relationship with someone who isn’t Anti-Valentine’s, make sure that you sell out. You don’t want to cause a fight over something so ridiculous. Let them spoil you and do the same for them. It might be a corporate scam, but it does create a nice excuse to be more romantic than usual.
