5 Things to Remember During Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Thanksgiving break is here and the only thing you can think about is all the macaroni you plan to consume and all the naps you are sure to enjoy. It may be hard to focus on anything, but there are some things to remember for your hiatus.

1. You still have to go back to school

It’s the end of the semester and everyone has that “I don’t care” attitude…but unfortunately you still have finals after break. Even though you’re exhausted physically and mentally this is not the time to give up on your schoolwork. While sleeping in everyday during the break sounds like a good idea, try to finish some work and keep your mind fresh for when you come back.

2. Clean out your fridge

You’re so excited to go home for break and have real food, which is completely understandable. If you don’t want to come back to a smelly dorm room/apartment/house then you and your roommates need to remove everything that won’t be able to make it through your possible week absence. You’re not going to eat those Mexican leftovers from six weeks ago, so just throw them out before they grows legs.

3. Actually spend time with your family

Everyone has a weird family it’s just the way of life, but during the break spend less time on your phone and sleeping the day away and more time bonding with them. You’re off at college and they’ve actually missed you and would like to see your face. Argue with your parents less and laugh more about the fact that for the fourth straight year in a row you haven’t brought a date to Thanksgiving dinner.

4. Catch up with some old friends

You’ve been so busy lately that you’ve forgotten what it was like when things were simple. Rekindle some old friendships and reminisce on all the good times you had in high school. Obviously you’re more mature than your high school self but it never hurts to reflect on some memories and share a few laughs.

5. Enjoy your break

Even though your Thanksgiving break isn’t really a full break, try to enjoy it. Take some time for yourself and just forget about everything and binge watch a couple episodes of your favorite show while stuffing your face with pie. A couple hours out of the day is enough time to relax and have a little peace and quiet.
