5 Ways to Make Yourself Happy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

It’s so easy for us to be down about certain situations that we face on a day to day basis but, just as easy as it is for us to be sad, it’s just that easy for us to be happy. Life wouldn’t be life if there were no ups and downs. To make the most of these ups, read the tips below and incorporate them into your everyday life!

1. Identify what you like about yourself

Identifying what you like about yourself can help you to develop a positive attitude. I find that the best way to do this is to write all of your best characteristics (not just physical) on some post-it notes, and place those notes on the wall or a place that you look at often. When you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed, take a look at these notes and read them out loud to yourself. Doing this on a daily basis will not only make you happier, but it will also increase your self-confidence!

2. Go outside

Go outside and smell the roses! Living in the digital era, we take for granted the beauty of nature. Staying indoors all of the time can be very confining and causes laziness. When you’re outside you’re limitless to the amount of activities you could participate in. If you find yourself having a bad day, you could take a walk outside and do some refelction. I guarantee you, you’ll feel amazing afterwards!

3. Spend time with loved ones

Having a girl’s night or a family get together is always sure to be a great time! Being with these people help you to forget about all of the problems you could be having, or they could provide you with words of wisdom. There’s nothing better than being surrounded by people that care about you no matter what!

4. Love yourself

Last, but most definitely not least, the number one key to personal happiness is loving yourself. If you do not love yourself, no one else will and that’s a fact! When you love who you are as a person you open the door to other people to see who you really are. This is because you can’t completely be yourself without self-realization, and from that you love yourself. Get it?! Loving yourself can take some time, but once you do you’ll be on cloud nine!
