Meet Ashley, one of this week’s campus celebrities. You may have seen her around campus dressed in pink and green or she might even be your RA. If you don’t know, here’s a little bit about her:
Name: Ashley Butts
Hometown: Milledgeville, Ga
Classification/Grad Year: Junior- 2017
Major: Chemistry
Minor: Spanish
Extracurricular Activities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., CWVSU, American Chemical Society, Greek Ambassador Treasurer, NPHC Treasurer, MAG, Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success, Heart 2 Heart Association, Resident Assistant
HC: First of all, what made you choose Valdosta State?
AB: The chemistry program was ranked as one of the most successful programs in Georgia at the time but I also took a tour my junior year of high school and fell in love with the campus.
HC: Which year was the most memorable for you at VSU?
AB: Freshmen year was definitely the most memorable.
HC: What would you consider your biggest accomplishment thus far?
AB: The memories, connections, associates, and friends I have made by being heavily involved on campus. I have learned so much about other people as well as myself and they have helped me not only survive, but succeed during my undergrad career.
HC: What do you plan to do with your major?
AB: Either practice pharmacy at a hospital/private practice or go into pharmaceutical engineering to make medicine.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
AB: I honestly cannot tell you. I’m still trying to figure out where I will be next year.
HC: What advice would you give incoming (your major) undergrad students?
AB: Please, please try not to take on several labs and math classes at the same time. Spread them out and intertwine them with your core classes so that you can actually enjoy your college experience.
HC: One quote that would best describe you.
AB: “A woman who is genuine, a leader in every way.”
HC: Who inspires you the most? What about them inspires you?
AB:Â My mother. Her determination, humility, selflessness, ambition, and kind-hearted spirit. I aspire to be half the woman she is because she has touched the lives of everyone she has met.
HC: How would you like to be remembered at VSU?
AB: I’d like the work I have done on this campus and the difference I have made to speak for me. Even if I’ve only made a difference for (to) one person, that one person means a lot to me.
