Name: Becky Kluball
Major: Art Education
Hometown: Leesburg, GA
Classification: Senior (Graduating in May – congrats Becky!)
Student Organization(s): VSU Chapter of the National Art Education Association
HC: Hi Becky, Share with us three fun facts about yourself!
Becky: I absolutely love to be outdoors, whether it’s hunting, fishing, playing with my dog, playing sports or lounging by the pool – anything that gets me outside enjoying the weather. I love traveling and can’t go very long without going somewhere new. My family and I have driven to 39 of the 50 states and to both Canada and Mexico – all before I graduated high school! This summer, I will be traveling to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. I like to create different kinds of artwork for my house, but I’m running out of room on my walls!
HC: Take the letter “D.” What are three words that start with that letter and why do those words describe you?
Becky: Dynamic, because I am involved in multiple disciplines within my major, but also in other aspects of my life. I cannot be classified or put into one single stereotype, which I am proud of. Determined, because I have found that in school and life in general you must be determined if you want to be successful in what you do. I am determined to provide an exceptional education to any students and be successful as a teacher. Diligent, because I am very diligent in how I create my artwork, my lesson plans and how I want my students to carry out their projects.
HC:Â A lot of the reasoning behind those words seems to relate to your major, what do you want to do with your major?
Becky: I will be teaching art in a school, because this degree is P-12. I have many options to choose from concerning age of the students.
HC: Are you an intovert or an extrovert?Â
Becky:Â I am definitely an extrovert.
HC:Â Who is your favorite celebrity?
Becky:Â Julie Andrews!
HC: How do you stay motivated to do what you do?
Becky: Not going to lie, sometimes being a teacher can be frustrating, however, it is the little victories that make everything I do worth it. The one moment that a student finally understands what I’ve been teaching and I can see the learning taking place, or the “light bulb” turning on in their head, makes every day in the classroom worth it.
HC: Wow. That sounds amazing. Taking a turn in a different direction, what advice would you give to incoming freshman at VSU about their futures here?
Becky: I would advise freshman to seize every chance handed to them while in college. Learn your balance between work and play because your college years are going to fly by and before you know it, graduation will be less than a month away. Work hard in school, but be sure to enjoy your time in college!
HC: What impact or legacy would you like to leave behind at VSU?
Becky: I believe that anyone who attends VSU leaves a legacy of some kind. I would like to know that I left a positive impact on my professors, supervisors, and peers at VSU. I want my professors to remember my growth from a freshman who lacked drawing skills and could barely manage a professional camera to a senior who was able to learn multiple art medias and be in multiple exhibitions and shows.
