HC: Hey Brandi! Tell us a little bit about why you chose to come to VSU.
Brandi: I chose VSU because I knew there would be a great opportunity here to challenge myself and become a better softball player. There was a chance to win a national championship all while making life long friends and getting an education.
HC: You have become very accomplished so far in your time at VSU. Do you have a memory from your time here, or even from before that, that made you realize what purpose you had in the world?
Brandi:Â Yeah, it was actually here at VSU. You wouldn’t think that being a softball player would be that important but being a part of such a great softball team here at VSU, I quickly realized there are so many young girls and even boys that look up to you. One day they want to be just like you. Even when you have bad practice days and games, it is easy to forget that when you are in your uniform signing a litte girl’s softball or even giving her your very first softball glove. It is memories like those that make you realize you aren’t just put here to go through the motions of life and not impact someone. You impact people every single day even if you don’t realize it.
HC: That’s an awesome way to look at it. So besides those little boys and girls that motivated you to play, what motivates you in your nursing career?
Brandi: I stay motivated by talking to my sister and cousin about their nursing experiences and reading so many articles about how rewarding nursing can be. I can’t imagine giving up my dream of becoming a nurse for anything. I start nursing school this Spring semester and I look forward to the challenges that it has in store for me and the many different methods I’ll have to come up with to keep myself motivated.
HC: What do you plan to do after graduating with your Nursing degree in 2017?
Brandi: I plan on getting some experience as a nurse and then hopefully signing a contract to be a travel nurse for a few years. After that I plan to do home health care in the hospice field. After all of that, my life long goal is to further my education and become a Nurse Anesthetist.
HC: That is quite the plan! Are nursing and softball your only two passions in life? What else are you passionate about?
Brandi: As cheesy as this answer is…I am passionate about my boyfriend, Jordan. I truly believe God has a plan for us together in this life. Jordan is everything to me. He is my foundation, my backbone, my motivation. He is selfless and loving. I couldn’t ask for anything more than him.
HC: That is so great. So from being with Jordan to studying to be a nurse to winning a National Championship, after all of this…what advice would you give to incoming students?Â
Brandi: Your college years aren’t the best of your life because of all of the parties and getting away from your parents, but because this is the time to truly find out who you are as a person, which in return, rewards you with the best days of your life in front of you.
HC: To sum up this interview, sum up your time at VSU in three words for us Brandi.
Brandi: Unforgettable, life-changing, and growth.
