BOO! It’s that time of the year again where treats and scares are in abundance. Pumpkin patches, costume parties, and of course classic horror films are some of the great activities for Halloween. Personally, my favorite movie genre ever is horror. I love the feeling of being scared and anticipating what is going to happen throughout the movie. Here is a list of some of my favorite horror classics. So to all of my horror fanatics, get the popcorn, grab a snuggle buddy, and some snacks.
- Halloween
I could not start a horror film list without the number one classic horror film of them all, Halloween. Halloween is based on the psychopath that we all know and fear, Michael Myers. Brutally murdering his sister, Michael was sentenced to jail but soon escapes while he was being transferred at the age of 21. This film is definitely the representation for the classic scary sociopath that goes around and murders others for his own satisfaction.
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street
This selection is based on a disfigured serial killer that only attacks you in your dreams. How much scarier could that get? The audience watches as one of Wes Craven’s best creations come to life on the big screen. Freddy Krueger definitely scared me growing up because his character was so unique and happened to attack in the most peaceful way for a lot of us, in our sleep. If you are looking for a psychological scare this is the movie for you.
3. The Exorcist
Grab a bible, you’re going to need it. The Exorcist is one of the most well-known terrifying movies to date. Due to the film being based on true events, many had a hard time watching the film without fear. The audience is taken on a journey with a family whose daughter becomes possessed and is need of an exorcism. My first time ever watching this film was when I was 20 years old, that’s how afraid I was to watch it. Good luck!
4. Insidious
Although Insidious is a trilogy, the first movie was the scariest in my opinion. The film is centered on a family who moves into a house that soon they realize is haunted by a malevolent entity. This movie is a tricky one consisting of many twist and turns. Buckle up for this one and pay close attention.
5. The Grudge
Making its way to American theaters in 2004, The Grudge is a supernatural international, thriller to say the least. Originating in Japan, the film is based on a creepy house that has horrific history behind it. When a new family moves into the house, they soon find out that there is a lingering curse that aims to kill everyone that inhabits the house. Talk about your dream home.
Overall, there are so many different films to watch, but these are my top 5 favorites of all time. These films have horror, mystery, drama, and fantasy, all into one. Each selection is a great thrill and will have you on the edge of your seat.
HCXO!
