Name: Tremaine Genias
Major: Political Science
Classification: Senior
Fun Fact:Â I’m first generation American.
HC:Â Tell us a little about yourself!
TG: Hi, I’m Tremaine Genias. I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I’m also a Jamerican (Jamaican and American). I love to dance, watch anime, practice MMA, Band is bae, and being extremely involved in my organizations.
HC:Â What are your aspirations in life?
TG:Â To be the very best that no one ever was. [Laughs] No, but seriously I really want to be the best person I can be. A great friend, leader, husband, and father (in the future). Just someone who inspires others with my actions.
HC:Â What are you involved in on campus?
TG: Many things. I have been the Event Coordinator for Collegiate Men of Valdosta State University (CMVSU) since fall 2014. The Treasurer and the Recruitment Chair for Creative Media & Marketing. I’m also a member of Black Student League, Model United Nations, and Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band. I’m also the new announcer for VSU Girls and Boys Basketball games.
HC:Â What are you currently doing to influence students on campus?
TG: By showing the student body that you can be yourself and still get the job done. For anybody that knows me, they know I’m “Tremaine” 24/7, and I get the job done. For each of my organizations, I try to introduce a family like bond with fellow members, so they can feel like they are a part of the organization. I make that a priority for CMVSU. It is our job to mold men of character, distinction and excellence, so I try my best to lead by example and have fellow members treat the org with pride.
HC:Â Why should you be chosen for Homecoming King?
TG: Since the idea of Homecoming King was reintroduced last year, SGA stated that they didn’t want Homecoming King to just be about popularity, they didn’t want it to just be a title. The Homecoming King would represent our school, represent what it is to be a blazer. Before the homecoming king was a thing at VSU, I was trying to be as involved as possible to help make our campus better for everyone, so when they actually made a job for it, I wanted to run and use the title as king to help make the campus better for all students.
HC:Â If you were to be crowned Homecoming King, how would you use your title to impact our campus?
TG:Â To be honest with or without the title, I have already made an impact on this campus and that is a fact. I have represented the school in so many ways since I started school here in fall 2011. I helped change the way men act as leaders and gentlemen through CMVSU. I was one of the few male members when BSL only had 11 working members and helped it grow to the organization we know today, I created mentorship group for young boys in Heart 2 Heart. Changed the way of how the Blazin Brigade was viewed. I represented Valdosta State University, by being a delegate through Model United Nations and received awards for it. So by being Homecoming King, or not, I will continue to be a positive impact on Valdosta State University until I graduate in May.
HC:Â What sets you apart from other candidates?
TG: What I believe sets me apart from the other candidates is. First, my outgoing personality. I’m very vocal so if I, or any of my people, have an issue with something I will go out of my way to handle the situation in a productive manner. Second, with being involved with many organizations, that are all diverse in what they do, I feel that I have a better understanding ofthe issues on campus that need to be handled. Lastly, I’ve not only help my organizations, but I have fully supported and helped many other organizations that I’m not even a part of. That is what I feel that sets me apart. I already know I’m a king for the people.
Voting begins Tuesday, November 10th on Campus Connect! HCXO!
