Moving into your first house or apartment can be one of the most joyous moments of your life! You’re finally on your own with your own space and the freedom to decorate however you want. But after that buzz of independence wears off, you may start to become overwhelmed on how exactly you’ll be able to decorate your little place on your college student budget. Deciding on things such as color schemes, furniture and lighting can be frightening and expensive. Luckily, I just recently moved into my own very tiny and cute studio apartment and have found ways to nearly furnish the whole place with only $300. Here are some tips!
1. Thrift and Consignment Stores are your Best Friend.
Sometimes it’s scary thinking about using things that other people have used before–but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at some of the things you can find in your local Goodwill or local thrift store. These are great places to look for couches, coffee tables, lamps, etc. I was able to buy a love seat that I use as a couch for my tiny apartment for only $17 bucks! The couch is now one of my favorite things about my apartment. Although it may take a bit of looking, the hunt will be well worth it!Â

2. Stay Small
When shopping for a place with a small square footage, you don’t want to bring anything into the area that is too big or too bulky. For example, you wouldn’t want to bring a full living room set into a small space with only room for the bare necessities. Your best bet is to get small cute pieces for your home that will distract people from the size with the overall uniqueness. For example, instead of getting a real dining set, how about making over a two seat patio set? With the right comfy cushions and reupholstering the table you’ll be eating in style in no time.Â
