We’re All The Same But Completely Different

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Why is it easier to think negatively? Strong mental health or not, the mind works in unique ways. Are you a realist or an optimist? If you’re a realist, your mindset in situations is fitting to the circumstances at hand. Realists don’t give themselves “false hope” to eliminate giving their hopes up and staying true to themselves. On the other hand, optimists have a horrible time with understanding situations for what they are. That’s where the “what ifs” come in. You want a positive outcome so bad to the point where you’re essentially overlooking your sense of reality. I say all that for us to understand that there are a lot of realists and optimists in the world. Like me, you can be both and be fine. Being both means that you are able to see situations for what they are with no possibility of “false hope” but you can also tell yourself that MAYBE another outcome will happen. If you’re a realist or an optimist, you most likely have a fellow mutual in the room with you right at this moment. If not, they are somewhere and you are not alone.

Do you ever feel like you have to change to be accepted?

It’s easy to put ourselves in a bubble because of what other people are uncomfortable with, but THAT IS THEIR PROBLEM!

As I said, we are all the same but completely different. Some people have a better grasp of this concept than most. You may find yourself in the company of someone who doesn’t accept you for who you are and what you bring to the table. That’s definitely no fault to them, but it was a decision they made and it is in your best interest to respect their decision and respect yourself. So just stop putting yourself in that bubble and do what you want and how you want it to be done. Back to that realist mindset, “I came in this world by myself, I will leave it the same way.” Well, that’s a way to think of it, but you’re living for yourself and nobody else. Honor that and see no wrong in it and I guarantee you will be happier with life.
