Going Greek- How to Wear Your Letters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

It’s that time of year again… the freshmen, and even some upperclassmen, have now joined Greek Life and are eager to show off their new letters.  While the sorority t-shirts and tote bags seen all over campus are a great way to display your letters, there are many other ways as well.  They say we are “always wearing our letters,” so let’s wear them with style!

Freshmen, Becca Cunningham, shows everyone her Tri Delt pride with a sweatshirt.  Becca says she loves all her sorority t-shirts because they are “comfortable and cute.”  Becca’s outfit also utilizes a valuable tip- incorporate your sorority’s colors into your everyday wardrobe.

New member of Alpha Delta Pi, Lauren Nortz says she “carries her new tote bag everywhere, because it shows off her letters and is also very practical.”

While the shirts and bags are a great start, we cannot forget all that Greek life has to offer to our style and accessories.

You can put your Lily Pulitzer sorority print on tumblers, iPhone cases, scarves, bracelets, and bags.  This is a great way to include your sorority without necessarily wearing the letters.

While sorority lavalier necklaces hold the tradition of a boyfriend’s commitment to his girlfriend (both of whom would be Greek), they are also a small and sentimental way to hold your letters close everyday.

Last, but not least, don’t forget to be creative with your symbols and animals.  You can craft with them or buy them for accessories.

And while your strutting around in your letters, don’t forget to embrace your new sisterhood by giving your sisters some cute sorority gifts too!

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, came to Vanderbilt as a member of the class of 2015 and got involved with HerCampus her freshman year. She became assistant editor that year and is now the Campus Correspondent for Vanderbilt HC as a sophomore. Stacey is currently a columnist for Ask Miss A- Nashville and the life section of The Hustler. She's also very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as well as Invisible Children. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Samurai Sushi), great books (The Hypnotist's Love Story is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.
