How to Decorate a Dorm Room for Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

Halloween comes but once a year, and what a great time it is! Candy and costumes, I couldn’t ask for anything more! Since we all love Halloween so much, it is necessary to spread the festivity, even to our closets…I mean dorm rooms. If you love Halloween, aka everyone, and want to make your room extra special for the holiday, check out these cool ways to decorate!

1.     Pumpkins

I’m pretty sure Halloween wouldn’t exist without pumpkins. Buy a pumpkin. Do it. Forget about how awkward it will be when you keep it after Halloween and don’t know how/where to get rid of it because it will be worth it. Undecorated pumpkins are for wimps, but if you aren’t into carving pumpkins in your dorm room, you can try paint/sharpies. In that case, buy some tiny ones and decorate them with your friends!

2.     Candles

Nothing sets the mood like a Halloween smell. I would definitely go for a spiced pumpkin scent, but other fall favorites include cranberry, apple cider, or any spices! In fact, don’t even wait for Halloween—get them now and keep them forever.

3.     Simple decorations

My favorite idea is a Halloween banner. It’s super simple and extremely adorable! Anything hanging works and is easy to store/keep for next year. Or you can make your own! Cut up some construction paper, and keep in mind bats, ghosts, and pumpkins, which are easy to make.

4.     Halloween Goblets

Halloween goblets are my personal favorite. They are not only cheap, but also very awesome. I have an obsession with beverage holders, but who doesn’t? They might seem seasonal, but I doubt anyone would judge you for drinking out of a skull cup any day of the year. No shame!

5.     Candy

So it’s not a decoration technically, but Halloween is nothing without candy. Buy a bunch, share it with your friends, share it with your hall mates, or share it with random people and make friends! Also, look into those little cookies that have Halloween pictures in them from Pillsbury, because on Halloween who doesn’t want a cookie with a pumpkin on it?

I hope you are now on the same level of excitement as I am, and that these ideas are helpful in your holiday decorating. Happy Halloween from Her Campus!
