School is back in session and spring break is done. Even though it can be hard saying goodbye to sunny weather and no homework, you can still stay relaxed at school! Don’t get overwhelmed now that you’re back. Take everything in baby steps and use some of these tips to make the transition easier. When all else fails, remember that this semester is almost over and the next big countdown is for summer break!Â
1. Get a good night’s sleep
Yes, we’ve all heard it before that a good night’s rest can improve health. Well, it’s true! Try to get at least 6-8 hours a night and preferably earlier at night. It makes a huge difference when you go to sleep at 1 am instead of 3 am. It can be hard getting everything done in time so see if you can rearrange your schedule so that you can make it to the library at 4pm instead of after dinner. Finishing your work earlier will mean extra time to relax in bed. It might even give you time to read a book for pleasure!
2. Eat your fruits and vegetables!
A good meal is the foundation of good mental health. We’ve all been there when you’re writing a paper but you can’t think of the right thing to say. It’s because your brain doesn’t have the right fuel! Eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables every day and it will help your brain function at full capacity. Fish is also a great option and you should try to eat it in at least 3 meals a week.Â
3. Do yoga
Get some exercise! You don’t need to hit the gym for an hour straight but try to find a 20-minute routine that helps you relax. Yoga is always a popular option, but for others a light jog or swim is best. Find what suits you and stick to it. It will make you feel healthier and more calm. I’ve found some of my favorite routines on Pinterest and they can be done in my dorm room!Â
4. Call your mom
Talking to your mom (or another loved one) is a quick way to help you relax. Venting out your stresses will make you instantly feel better! Sharing funny stories is a bonus: it keeps her up to date with your life AND laughing is the best medicine!Â
