On Tuesday, September 16th, Nashville finally got a Madewell. It’s located at the Mall in Green Hills, and with over 70 stores nationwide, this is only the second one located in Tennessee.

A sister brand to J. Crew, Madewell caters young adult women with a full pocket book. Most pieces at Madewell exude an effortless, urban chic look, from tailored dresses and jackets, to slouchy tops and cozy sweaters. Of note is their “Denim Bar,” which boasts over 10 styles and a variety and colors and washes.

The Nashville Madewell is comparable to that of other locations in size and set up. In the front all of the new pieces are gathered, with many of the dresses and statement tops out to catch the unsuspecting customers’ eye. The second room of the store houses the many combinations of denim as well as Madewell’s popular chambray and denim shirts. The last room, which typically holds shoes and sale items, was particularly sparse given that the location doesn’t have many products to put on clearance.

On the night of the opening there was a celebration with food, drinks, an in-house DJ and the inclusion of several popular fashion bloggers, such as James Kicinski McCoy of Bleubird Blog. Many of the first customers received a Bien Fait tote as a gift with purchase. Days after the celebration, the store still saw quite large crowds.

The overall response by consumers has been a positive one. Many wonder why there was not a Madewell location in Nashville before, considering the urban clientele is abundant. In any case, the contributors of HerCampus Vanderbilt will certainly frequent Madewell for the undergraduate years to come.
