10 Struggles of Having Small Feet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

People always assume you’re lucky for having small feet. They say things like: “Your feet are so cute,” and “your shoes must be cheaper.” Little do they know, there are plenty of struggles that come with having small feet, and most of the time your shoes are regular price. Here are 10 struggles that come with having small feet.

1. Having trouble finding shoes that fit

When shoes do come in smaller sizes they only have a few pairs and they sell out quickly. A lot of smaller feet also fit in a lot of half sizes so you’re constantly going back and forth between sizes. You usually go shoe shopping with low expectations. Shoe shopping with small feet is definitely a frustrating process.

2. People always stare at your feet

Whenever people notice your small feet they always stare and ask you what size you wear. There are also comments like: “Your feet are so tiny and cute,” and “Look how much bigger my foot is than yours.”

3. You’re self-conscious wearing flip flops or going barefoot

Wearing flip flops or going barefoot feels good in the warm weather but you’re always worried people will notice your small feet out in the open.

4. You get embarrassed shopping in the kid’s shoe section

Your feet are so small you can fit in some kid’s shoes. They might be a little bit cheaper, but you pay for it with weird stares from strangers.

5. You can never borrow shoes from someone

Most of your friends and family have average-sized feet so you can’t raid their shoe supply. You’ll just stick to your old and reliable shoes you’ve had forever.

6. “One size” shoes and socks don’t apply to you

The one size fits all is a lie to people with smaller feet. When trying on a one size pair of shoes or socks, they are always too big for you and you ask yourself why you even tried.

7. People always suggest baby shoes as a joke

When you’re shoe shopping with others they will go and grab baby or infant shoes and say “I think these will fit you.” Wow, so funny, as if I haven’t heard that joke a million times.

8. Finding shoes for a special event is extra stressful

Finding the perfect pair of shoes for a special event is stressful for anyone, but it’s even worse for people with smaller feet. You find a pair you like and they don’t have your size or they do have your size but your feet slide out of them regardless.

9. You get Velcro shoes at the bowling alley

While everyone gets bowling shoes with shoe laces, you sit there velcroing your shoes feeling younger than you actually are.

10. You’ve had to punch extra holes in the straps of your shoes

When you find shoes with ankle straps that fit your foot but not your ankle, you already know it’s time to get crafty. Time to punch a hole into the ankle strap so your shoes stay on.

There are so many struggles that come with having small-sized feet. One of the only positive is shoe sales when the small sizes come out in quantity. To the girls who struggle with their small feet, although shoe shopping is aggravating, never give up and stop letting other people tease you and your “cute” feet.
