The Disney and Tim Burton Mashup We Always Needed is Here

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Keep calm Disney and Tim Burton fans, an artist has shown us what Disney films would look like in Burton style.

Artist Andrew Tarusov has reimagined classic Disney movies into posters as if they were a Tim Burton film. The images are eerie and dark, almost as if Burton himself drew and directed the film. Tarusov even reinvented some of the storylines of the Disney classics to better fit a Tim Burton world.

“I tried to combine colorful and happy Disney characters with Burton’s view,” Tarusov told Huffington Post. “I either took some of my favorite moments from each movie, or I based my idea on the characters’ distortion.”

Disney is known for making dark fairy tale stories family friendly. For example, in the original version of Cinderella, the stepsisters cut off their heels and toes in order to fit into the glass slipper (talk about “beauty is pain!”) and ended up getting their eyeballs pecked out at the end of the story. That is certainly scarier than the happy mice and singing birds of Disney’s Cinderella. Tarusov’s images reflect those original stories. Maybe we can hope for a darker Disney/Burton mashup of these gloomy fairytales in the future.
