Megan’s Map: First Friday’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Richmond is quite an artistic city with numerous galleries, museums and street art almost everywhere you look. Not to mention it houses the number one public art school in the country (that’s us!). On the first friday of every month, galleries, shops and restaurants on Broad Street open their doors after-hours to present their work and serve the public. This is known to Richmond dwellers as First Fridays Art Walk.

First Fridays is a celebration of art and community and is quite a signature event. People gather from all over Richmond to look at the new art, to be around friends and to meet new people. The list of partcipating venues includes 1708 Gallery, 212 Tattoo, 707, ADA Gallery, Visual Art Studio, The Market at First Friday’s, Quirk – it goes on! You can find the complete list on their website. First Fridays usually lasts from around 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., although most places do have their own hours. This is a great opportunity to meet local artists and network with them and others!
