The bright lights and big city of New York attracted more than just those who wanted stardom and fame the weekend of March 16, 2013. Along with current students making the doting 6 and a half hour drive, VCU alumni showed up to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn to see the Rams face off with other competing teams in the A10 Tournament.

I had the awesome experience with two of my fellow Mass Communications friends, Trey and Lauren. We had so much fun that by the end of the trip none of us had our voices. Between cheering on our Rams and an awesome after party, this weekend was nothing short of amazing. Despite the fact that we made it to the championship we lost the title to St. Louis. Our basketball setback didn’t stop us though. My friends and I managed to still have a blast, and I took the chance to visit some amazing sites — taking awesome pictures and developing lifelong memories.

One of the places we visted was the Ground Zero memorial where so many of our own lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The whole thing was touching and it was awesome to see Americans as well as
other nationalities coming together during hard times. After taking some shots, we checked out a few more spots in the city before catching the second game that night.

After another win, we hit the streets of Manhattan and went to Times Square which was morefun than we could handle. I got a chance to unleash my inner kid in the two-story Disney Store and
afterwards we found a comedy club that topped off a great night! We had an incredible time.Â
