This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.
Name: Emily Borst
Nickname: Em, my grandma calls me Em-O-lee (but she’s the only one allowed to)
Hometown: Spotsylvania, VA
Major: Double majoring in English and Mass Communications (concentration in print/online journalism)
Year: 2018 if I get my life together in time, 2019 if I don’t.
Why did you decide to come to VCU?
I’ve always loved Richmond, and once I was given the opportunity to attend school here I jumped at the chance. That and they gave me a huge scholarship.
What’s been your favorite part of VCU so far?
The friends I’ve made; I really didn’t believe the old cliché that you meet your bridesmaids in college until I met my friends here.
How has being a part of Her Campus affected you?
I was really unhappy here the first semester of my freshman year, and the one thing that made me want to give it another chance was the love and support I received from my friends in Her Campus. I’m so glad I stayed.
What Her Campus article that you’ve written are you most proud of? Why?
Why I Don’t Keep Up With the Kardashians. That piece really challenged me, and once it was shared by nationals I received a lot of negative feedback from people who disagreed with me. Their comments made me grow stronger as a writer and listen to what I want to say rather than what others want me to say.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
America’s Next Top Model and Pitbull.
What song was your middle school anthem?
Anything by Metro Station or The Black Eyed Peas
What’s your ideal date night?
A candlelit picnic and a walk around anywhere outdoors, with the night ending in a good movie and a long conversation
What was the last thing you impulse bought?
A shade of lipstick I’m not sure I’ll ever wear
