The 65th annual Grammy Awards aired Sunday, Feb. 5. These awards happen every year to showcase the best artists, albums, songwriters and many other talented producers of the last year. And every year, the people vote on who should receive the awards. But whose opinion is better than the general public? Mine — that’s whose. Here are my picks for this year’s Grammy nominations.
Record of the Year
The nominees for Record of the Year:
- “Don’t Shut Me Down” by ABBA
- “Easy On Me” by Adele
- “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé
- “Good Morning Gorgeous” by Mary J. Blige

- “Woman” by Doja Cat
- “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy
- “The Heart Part 5” by Kendrick Lamar
- “About Damn Time” by Lizzo
- “As It Was” by Harry Styles
Out of these 10 choices, my personal choice is “Woman” by Doja Cat. This song never fails to get me up and dancing, and always helps me when a quick pick-me-up is needed.
The winner of Record of the Year was “About Damn Time” by Lizzo.
Album of the Year
The nominees for Album of the Year:
- “Voyage” by ABBA

Out of these amazing options, my personal favorite is “Harry’s House” by Harry Styles. This album was highly anticipated by the general public, especially by die-hard Harry Styles’ fans. As someone who actually isn’t crazy about Harry, I was pleasantly surprised by my positive reaction to this album.
The winner of Album of the Year was “Harry’s House” by Harry Styles.

All of these song nominations are very catchy and popular within society. My personal pick is “Bad Habit” — Matthew Castellanos, Brittany Fousheé, Diana Gordon, John Carroll Kirby & Steve Lacy. As many know, this song went viral on many social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. No matter how many videos I heard with this song as background noise, it’s still religiously played in my car. Unfortunately I really do bite my tongue — it’s a bad habit.
The winner of Song of the Year was “Just Like That” — Bonnie Raitt, songwriter (Bonnie Raitt).

- DOMi & JD Beck

Out of all these fresh new artists, my personal favorite is Muni Long. She has countless hits circulating daily on the radio, including “Wait For You,” featuring popular hip-hop artist Drake. I feel she has really made a spot for herself as a female R&B singer in the industry.
The winner of Best New Artist was Samara Joy.
I hope you agree a little with my choices for this year’s 2023 Grammy nominations. I enjoy watching the Grammys every year and seeing the world’s opinions compared to my own. I am also happy to see all of the diversity in the nominations, and am already waiting for next year’s showcase of artists, albums and songs.
