Valentine’s Day day ended the other day, but did you have the right playlist to celebrate that special day of love? What’s Valentine’s Day without the love songs that make us feel mushy inside? Well no worries, we might not of made if in time for that special day, but in no particular order, here are some tracks to fulfill all of your romantic desires:
10. The Way I Am- Ingrid Michaelson
‘cause I love you more than I could ever promise. And you take me the way I am”
I could sum this song up in two words: sweet simplicity. This song describes accepting your significant “boo boo, honey lump, lamb chop” for everything they are — no more, no less. With it lasting only two minutes and thirteen seconds, this song leaves you wanting more.
9. Until The End of Time- Justin Timberlake
“So rest your weary heart and relax your mind, cause I’m gonna love you girl Until the end of time.”
A reminder that we all wish for love to be everlasting. With a beat that makes you want to sway along with Justin’s crooning voice, this song makes me want to hold someone really tight and never let go (cheesy, I know, but can you blame me? I’m a sucker for love).
Sidenote: Looking for a duet? The remix with Beyonce Knowles will pull at your heart strings.
8. Rather Die Young
“Boy you’ll be the death of me, you’re my James Dean, make me feel like I’m 17”
If there were to be a 2012 Bonnie and Clyde remake, this song would definitely fit the scene where the couple is riding around in the convertible. Ahhhh the age old, “I would rather die than be without you” ballad. This song is very reminiscent young Romeo and Juliet love.
7. Adore- Prince
“Loves to weak to define just what you mean to me”
This is the ultimate love song for people who aren’t too fond of love songs. Prince’s “Adore” is genuine and meaningful love song that differs from many other love songs because it excludes the “puffery” and romantic words of typical love songs. It plainly says “I love you more than love itself.” Enough said.
6. Saving All My Love- Whitney Houston
“No other man is gonna do, so I’m saving all my love for you”
Okay, so in reality if you listen closely, you’ll find out this song is about infidelity. But so what? You can’t have a list of love songs without Whitney Houston. Don’t believe me? Watch those infomercials at 2 in the morning advertising 24 set C.D.s of 100 Greatest Love Songs for $19.99. I bet Whitney shows up at least 7 times.
5. The Only Exception- Paramore
“And I’m on my way to believing”
To all the lovers who thought love didn’t exist. A love song for all those stubborn people who refuse to let love in. It may be scary, but Paramore’s “The Only Exception” shows us how beautiful the scary thought of being in love can be.
4. Just Me and You- Tony! Toni! Tone!
“Needless to say you know I really want you. I feel like you can make me happy”
A healthy relationship typically consists of two people. That’s it. It becomes difficult when friends and family gets involved. Tony! Toni! Tone!’s “Just Me and You” lets us know that valentine’s day should only include you and your significant other. Other people’s opinions and presence need not apply.
3. Your Body is a Wonderland- John Mayer
“One mile to every inch of your skin like porcelain. One pair of candy lips and your bubblegum tongue”
What girl doesn’t want to hear that her body is a playground of some sort? Although this is considered to be an adult alternative song, the acoustics in this song make it sound oh so soulful. The admiration Mayer shows for his lady in this song sets a big standard for all the fellas out there. So guys, take note.
2. You Da One- Rihanna
“You Da one So I Make Sure I Behave! My love is your love, your love is my love”
This song just screams, “I’m down for you, and only you!” Rihanna hits her Bahamian roots with this reggae style down beat. It’s fun and cute in a puppy love, first stages of love type of way.
1. The Cure- Lovesong
“Whenever I’m alone with you, you make me feel like I am whole again”
Some may be familiar with the Adele version of this song. Although I love Adele, I can’t say her version can quite compare to the original. There’s something about the instrumentals in The Cure’s version that shows the true depth of the emotion of love. The Cure’s version says I’m dark, but there’s still the hope of love inside of me.
Bonus:
Lucky- Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Caillat
“Lucky that I’m in love with my best friend, lucky to have been where I have been”
To be in love with your best friend feels like being home. This song reminds me of a warm, uneventful Sunday. Just refreshing.
