Six Things Parents Think We Do In College VS. What We Actually Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

What parents think: We have mass amounts of homework at a time and can barely find any time to relax.

Reality: There’s always time for Netflix, junk food and being carefree.

What parents think: That we are home before it gets dark out.

Reality: We leave the library at around 1 a.m. and stroll up to the crib roughly around 2 in the morning.

What parents think: We are always eating well balanced meals with the extremely overpriced meal plans they purchased.

Reality: Sorry to break it to you, but a lot of the time our money is better spent on things like Chipotle, Qdoba, and Noodles and Company.

What parents think: Slumber parties still exist, even now in our early twenties.

Reality: And it’s true they do, but just with the opposite sex.

What parents think: Working out is something that’s done on a daily basis, and that may be true for some college students.

Reality: As for me and others, the only cardio we get comes from the one flight of stairs we take to get to our next class.

What parents think: The reason we can’t talk on the phone for the third time in one day is because we’re too busy running for class president.

Reality: We barely have three friends that would actually vote for us to win.

We have to hand it to our parents on how they manage to willingly dismiss the realities of college. They say “we were your age once” so it’s clear they have some understanding of what goes on in college, and for that I’d like to say thank you on behalf of all of us collegiettes for still loving us unconditionally.
