On this week’s Spend Save Splurge, I’ll be sharing how I made my move-in day to my new apartment a breeze.
The day before I was able to move in, I loaded my car up with all the necessities: my bed and mattress. Yes, that was all that would fit. As inconvenient as it may seem, you are most likely not going to be able to fit everything in your car the first time. That’s why I planned multiple trips for multiple purposes.
Like I said, my first trip was to bring down furniture necessities and any other small things that would fit, like a lamp for example. Although, because I did not have a ton of room for anything else in the car, I did my room accessory shopping once I got to my apartment and began moving things inside. I looked at the layout of the room and decided what was necessary and what was a splurge.
After moving in my bed and mattress and dressing my bed with my comfy new sheets and comforter, I went to Target and bought some room necessities. A few things I got were: a mirror to hang on the back of my door (definitely a necessity), hangers, drapes, an extension rod to use as a curtain rod and some command strips. Remember, you don’t have to buy all of your room décor and accessories all at once. If you purchase items over time, you’ll realize what you really need in your room and make less impulse purchases on items you won’t end up using.
After my first haul down to Richmond, the next haul was a few days later with more necessary furniture items, like my desk. Along with the desk, I brought down a dresser and some more décor. Bringing items to your new room gradually reduces clutter and prevents you from bringing an excess amount of items to cause disorganization and an abundance of unnecessary items.
Moving into your new room or apartment should be done in many small steps, do not try to tackle it all at once! Hopefully these tips will make your move as smooth as mine was.
