Ladies, it’s that time of the year when it’s about to be brisk and chilly every single day outside. Summer is fun and easygoing, while the falltime is welcoming with coziness. Winter might hit us hard, but so can our outfits, and we’ve definitely got a lot to play around with. Now, we have the opportunity to layer pieces together and blend all of the seasons into one.

Whenever you are planning an outfit, Pinterest always has something new to find. If you want to spice up your closet or are figuring out ways to put pieces you already have together, it can help alleviate the stress of winter shopping. I’m here to offer a little more insight on the subject and have been testing out different looks on myself. From seeing the students on campus looking sharp, and scouring the internet trying to figure out what trends are coming next, I think it’s safe to say we’re gonna be iced out this winter. Nonetheless, here is some outfit inspiration heading into the wintertime.

(Fair warning – the links are to provide outfit inspiration while you are reading and researching for pieces to put together. With that said, some of the links to the clothes are expensive. Please know that you can thrift these pieces or rework old clothes you have lying around for a cheaper, more creative experience!)

Dresses

Whether you are going to class or getting dinner with friends, this outfit FKA Twigs is photographed in is a perfect example of how to incorporate summer dresses with a wintery twist. While this kind of layering is flirty and flashy, it still gives off a sophisticated feel that can be worn out to various errands or events. To make this look yourself grab your most vibrant summer dress, pair it with a fur coat, and play around accessorizing it with unique jewelry. To finish off the look, adding simple heels or platform shoes can elongate the dress while emphasizing your beautiful features. Other touches I would personally add are a fun pair of tights and ring chains.

Skirts

Skirts for winter outfits work so well because you can add them on top of jeans or tights, or if it’s a warmer day, legwarmers can get the job done! Perfect for layering on top of other items, you can also opt for a longer skirt on days when you want to protect your legs more. For an outfit, find a fun graphic t-shirt, your favorite skirt of choice, and to add some length and dimension, tall boots and socks will help while keeping the heat in.

Pants

Pants are a personal go-to when winter rolls around, not just because it’s comfortable and mobile, but because pants are effortlessly cool. It is relaxed, easy, and can be a really flattering look – whether the pants are fitted or baggy. Especially buildable with pieces in your closet, the first step in creating a look like this is to find your pants. Jeans, cargo, bell bottoms – anything that screams you! Along with any top and sneakers you have lying around, a big coat and scarf will ensure you look like a baddie for the wintertime. Bonus points on a chic bag and hat (extra points if you crochet the hat yourself).

No matter what, you are going to absolutely kill it this winter with your outfits. Some of my favorite advice I have ever gotten when it comes to fashion is to wear what you like. Even if the colors and textures do not necessarily match, if you love it, who cares? Who knows – maybe you can be the one setting the trends around your area. We can always make anything look amazing and unique, as long as we are feeling ourselves rocking it like we are.
