Campus Celeb: Anna Bauer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

Meet Anna Bauer (right), French and Communication double major, Le Cercle Français co-president, Vatican intern, and all-around lovely person.

NAME: Anna Bauer

MAJOR: French, Communication

HOMETOWN: Bexley, Ohio

YEAR: Junior, Class of 2015

So, Miss Bauer, you seem like a busy bee! Can you tell us what you’re involved in on campus?

Currently, I’m a member of the Blue Key Society and a Co-President of Villanova’s French club, Le Cercle Français. For the past two years, I have also been involved with the Day of Service, last year as a Service Site Leader and this year as a Service Site Captain. And since a girl’s gotta eat, I split my working hours between two different jobs on campus: a cashier for Dining Services and a Standardized Patient for the College of Nursing.

What’s the funniest/most embarrassing story from one of your campus tours?

The Campus Tour Angel has smiled down upon me for the past two years (I should knock on wood!), so I am lucky to say that I don’t have any awful horror stories. I did fall down while giving my very first tour, though. That was pretty awkward. I have since stopped trying to walk up stairs backwards.

Why should everyone join Le Cercle Français and how can they do so?

EVERYONE SHOULD JOIN LE CERCLE FRANÇAIS BECAUSE IT’S SUPER DUPER AWESOME!! But in all seriousness, it really is a cool group. We’re taking the club in a bit of a new direction this year, so it’s been re-vamped and is full of fresh ideas. And despite common belief, it’s not just for French language students! If you like food, movies, art, adventures, meeting new people, and/or having a good time, you are more than welcome to join us anytime! Shoot us an email: cerclefrancais.villanova@gmail….

You’re heading abroad for a pretty exciting semester in the spring! Can you tell us a little bit about what’s going down and how you decided to pursue it?

I have been blessed with the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy, where I’ll be taking classes and working as an intern at the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. This is essentially the Vatican’s Public Relations department, so I could be doing anything from media relations to website development to event planning. Within my Communication major, I’m specializing in PR, so the internship is a perfect way to get some fantastic experience in the field I’ll be entering in just a couple of years. More importantly, though, I am so excited to see the world from a different perspective. I am a Communication major largely because I believe in people, and I believe in the importance of being able to reach out to anyone and everyone, to understand where someone else is coming from and be able to communicate with them as a result of that understanding. To be honest, part of me is terrified to live in a foreign country for four months (especially since I don’t know a word of Italian!) But the chance to expand my horizons on an international level is far more exciting than it is scary. This opportunity really is a dream come true!

What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever done?

Last Halloween, I went to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney World with my boyfriend and his family. Everyone went as famous couples, so we dressed up as Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride. I must say: we were a hit.
