Campus Celeb: Carmine Urciuoli

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

Name: Carmine Urciuoli

Hometown: Westport, CT

Class: 2014

Major: Engineering

So Carmine, you’re an active member of VSMT. What made you get involved?

I’ve been in love with VSMT since before freshman year started, because I attended their music camp. I had just gotten into musicals earlier that year when I did Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat at my high school, Fairfiled Prep. That show ignited a long standing passion for musical theater much in the same way Nova ignites change.

What’s your favorite show so far?

The only show I’ve done at Villanova is The Producers, which is by far my favorite overall.

What else are you involved with at Villanova?

I started doing break trips my sophomore year. The first one I went on was to Lake Charles, Louisiana for Habitat for Humanity, and it really opened up my eyes to the benefits of helping out the community. Since then, I’ve enjoyed spending my breaks doing service with Campus Ministry. I’ve also gone to Camden, NJ and have been to Nicaragua twice for the engineering service trips.

Now that you’re a senior, what is the most memorable thing you’ve done at Nova so far?

I’m tempted to say The Producers, but pulling off the Sexy Sax Man prank my junior year was great.

Sexy Sax Man?

Halloween of my sophomore year, I was inspired by the Sexy Sax Man prank video on YouTube (see here). In honor of Halloween, I decided to dress up as Sexy Sax Man Sergio Flores from the classic George Michaels video for “Careless Whisper” and barged into random classrooms while playing the saxophone riff. It was perfect, teachers were so confused. I eventually got kicked out, but it’s something I can only do while in college, so it definitely proves to be my favorite memory so far. Plus, I’ve always been really into doing pop culture themed Halloween costumes, so this was meant to be.
