Typically when Villanovans venture out into the area surrounding our campus, we head down Lancaster for Hope’s Cookies, Gullifty’s, Chipotle, or the bars (if you’re 21). When we go shopping, we think of the King of Prussia mall first. But today, two of your very own HC writers swung by the Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop with $20 in our pockets (seriously) to see what we would find.
The Place
The Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop is located at 804 County Line Road, about a 5 minute walk from Home Props. The shop has three levels: downstairs for men’s clothing, the main floor for furniture, jewelry, and books, and the top level for women’s clothing. What makes the Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop so unique is that all the proceeds go to the Bryn Mawr Hospital.
The Products
When we first walked in, we saw bins of books and stacks of DVDs and CDs costing as low as $1.00.
A little further along, we saw scores of appliances, jewelry, kitchenware, and furniture. Lots of furniture.
Some finds were sleek and sophisticated, and others were eccentric and unconventional. Check out the zebra printed high heel shoe chair (yes, that’s a thing that exists in the world).
When we went upstairs, we found a huge array of clothing. Macklemore would have been very proud. Some of the items would have been appropriate for a retro-themed party, and others could make an appearance in class or for a night out.
The Come-Up
At the end of the day, we picked out two tank tops and a raspberry shirt (a color that’s perfect for fall). When we got to the register we were fully prepared to buy at full price (our grand total would have been $13 for all three shirts), but were surprised to learn that all shirts were half off. This brought it down to $6.50 in total.
You know what we can get at H&M for $6.50? Spoiler alert: not three shirts.
All in all, we at HC highly encourage you to check out the BMH Thrift Shop. The location and prices are great and you never know what you’re going to find.
