5 Board Games To Enjoy With Your Family During the Holiday Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

Looking for some fun board games to play over the holidays? Well, you’re in luck because I have five games that are sure to make the whole bunch happy. Some are new and some are classics but all of them are a good time. Read about them below:

For those who enjoy word play…

Blank Slate is a great choice. It’s all about completing or finishing a word. The game comes with colorful white boards and markers. It’s not very fast-paced, strategic, or competitive. Blank Slate is just a good time.

For those who enjoy strategy…

I have two recommendations: Cover Your Assets and Sequence. Cover Your Assets is a blast. Compared to Blank Slate, this game is much more addictingly intense. This game is every man for himself. You’ll have to manage and maintain your own assets, defending against all other players who might be out for your possessions. This is not to mention how cute the graphics are on each card. Get this game if you enjoy quick thinking and cut throat strategizing.

Sequence is another great game for those who like to flex their brain muscles. It comes with traditional playing cards but don’t be fooled because there’s nothing traditional about this game. Sequence is like if cards and Connect Four had a baby. And I’ll just leave it at that.

For those who enjoy solitaire…

If solitaire is getting lonely or slow, then Nertz is just for you. Nertz is a speedy solitaire that you can play with up to twelve people. This game requires full attention. There is no taking turns; instead, everyone plays all together at the same time.

For those who enjoy speed…

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is an excellent choice for a younger audience. The cards include adorable characters and colors. However, this game surely is not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to slap, hit, and whack your hands. This game reminds me of an easier version of Spot It.

I hope these recommendations helped. I know that board games are an annual holiday tradition in my home, so I wanted to spread the joy. Pro tip: use lottery tickets as prizes. It makes the games so much more exciting.
