Her Campus Virginia Tech: What are you involved in at Virginia Tech and how did you become involved?
Ben Slaughter: Since I’m a Music major, I’m deeply involved in the Music Department here at Tech. I play the Baritone in the Marching Virginians and the Low Brass Ensemble, as well as the piano in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. I had also played in the Campus Band last semester. More recently, I became involved in the Theatre & Cinema Department. I was asked to play in the pit of The Fantasticks last semester, and I just finished playing the “Jazz Club Pianist” in This.
HCVT: What is your favorite part of being a Hokie?
BS: My favorite part of being a Hokie is the amount of school spirit we have, especially at football games. Through thick and thin, good and bad, we stick together like family.
HCVT: What do you like to do in your spare time?
BS: I like to play and listen to music, play pick-up games of any sport, go bowling, play video games occasionally, read scripture, and hang with friends!
HCVT: What are your favorite movies?
BS: I’m a pretty big fan of Disney movies like The Lion King, Goofy Movie, and Finding Nemo. I also really enjoyed I Am Legend and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
HCVT: What do you plan to do after graduation?
BS: My goal is to be able to teach and direct a high school band for about four years, and potentially make my way up to the college level. I also would like to accompany choirs, churches, musicals, and orchestras, and to be available for weddings and other services.Â
