Confessions of a Wannabe Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

With the fall season starting to kick into high gear, it’s time for my yearly research on the latest fall and winter fashion. Now I always do this in the fall and winter because I have to wear so many clothes to keep warm that I want to look somewhat stylish while doing it. There’s just one little problem. I am NOT fashionable…I only pretend to be. I am always self-conscious and tend to judge myself whenever I try a new fall fashion. To negate this feeling, I’ve started trying only a few, less dramatic fashion ideas each year. If this sounds like you, aka a wannabe fashionista like me, I encourage you to read a few fashion tips I’ve put together for this season. These will hopefully help you be trendy in the frigid Blacksburg fall and winter.

Fall fashion #1: bold nail polish – is it just me, or does OPI come out with a must-have color every
week these days? This fall, you will see a lot of sparkly or metallic nail polishes. Matte, grey, brown and nude shades are also popular. Here are some of the hottest OPI color names to rock this season: “Cuckoo For This Color,” “Congeniality Is My Middle Name,” “Your Royal Shine-ness,” “Suzi Takes The Wheel” and “Brisbane Bronze.”

Fall fashion #2: leg warmers/tall socks peaking out over boots– this is personally my favorite trend of the fall. I love boots (I wear them almost everyday) and now I get to add a pop of color at the top and keep my toes/calves extra warm. I personally like to wear darker colors like burgundy, black, grey and cream. You can also wear bright colors and designs too. Either way it’s a great way to accentuate your boots, coordinate with your outfit and look really cute. I’ve seen leg warmers and high socks at stores like Target, American Eagle, Express and Nordstrom, so make sure you stock up on a couple of pairs and colors next time you’re out.

Fall fashion #3
: blazers – this is the most versatile fashion trend of the season. I love blazersbecause you can dress them up and dress them down depending on the occasion. You can also wear them with anything: jeans, dress pants, skirts, shorts and dresses. You can wear a blazer to class with some skinny jeans and boots for a comfortable, casual look. You can also wear them over a dress or skirt on chilly nights when you’re going out with your friends. This season there are a lot of different colors and styles so make sure to look at all your choices.

In the end, the most important tip I can give you about fashion is to make sure you feel comfortable. You’ll never be able to pull off one of the latest fashion trends if you don’t feel comfortable with yourself. Just make sure you have fun and enjoy your fall and winter seasons, fashionably of course.
