Hats, hats and more hats! That was the theme of the day this past Saturday at Blacksburg’s annual Fork and Cork festival. I attended the event and did indeed wear a hat.
I don’t think hats get enough credit. They are perfect for protecting your face from the sun. They are stylish and dramatic. And they are certainly attention grabbers.
At the festival, I saw many fantastic hats throughout the day. Some were regular ole’ sunhats, while others got a makeover. I spoke with two girls who bought plain straw sunhats, and they decorated them to make them to look even better. They used materials they bought at Michael’s and really went to town. (This is a fantastic DIY project ladies!)
Recently, hats had another major moment. I don’t know if any of y’all heard, but these two people named William and Kate got married last weekend. It was better known as The Royal Wedding. And with that wedding came some crazy hats designs. Many were reminiscent of Lady Gaga. That’s right, Gaga even gets respect from the royals. After watching all the coverage, I heard that many of the hats for the wedding were designed by Phillip Treacy, a famous British milliner (that means hat maker—cool word of the day). Check out his website http://www.philiptreacy.co.uk, right after you use your favorite search engine to look up the fantastic hats.
Okay back to talking about my love of hats. They come in all shapes and sizes for different seasons. For the warmer seasons I love a big floppy straw sunhat. I, personally, have two. One is a basic natural straw hat; the other is slightly more floppy and dramatic in black straw. Another trend in hats is the fedora. Great for all seasons, because they are made in different materials. For the spring/summer season straw or linen is your best bet. There are so many fedora styles you are sure to find one you love.
Hats are also fantastic for the pool. It helps you avoid the awkward sunglass tan and makes you look super fashionable. Hats are also a great way to update any outfit, and you can find some at incredible prices. You can get them for less than $20 at places like Target. I also like Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom for hat shopping.
So, all you fashion freaks out there, get out there and throw on a hat!
