I have personally never been a fan of Sundays. It has always been my most dreaded day of the week, as it has always signified the weekend ending and Monday scarily approaching. Although it is advertised as a day for productivity and setting yourself up for the week ahead, it is hard not to succumb to those feelings of laziness. However, I plan on readjusting my approach to my Sunday scaries this school year.

Simply relabeling Sunday as a day to reset is a great first step. Think of it as a day of vast opportunity for self-improvement and simplifying your life. Romanticizing the experience of accomplishing your tasks will help you actually enjoy the process of getting stuff done. Whether it be listening to your favorite podcast as you clean or having candles lit as you study, there are many small ways to help make mundane tasks more pleasant.

To effectively prepare yourself for a busy week of class or other commitments, you should set time aside for self-care. With a hectic schedule, the last thing we think to do is take care of ourselves but it can majorly improve mood and self-esteem. Self-care comes in different forms. My personal favorites include reading my favorite books, having a spa day, going for a walk, and baking. Regardless of what self-care looks like for you, you should allow yourself the opportunity to be a little selfish and never feel guilty for taking care of yourself.

Another piece of advice that has helped me is getting out of the house. Sundays can be very anxiety-inducing, and I have always struggled with feelings of restlessness when I’m trapped at home waiting for the start of the school week. Going on errands or simply getting fresh air helps immensely with keeping my mind busy. I highly recommend checking out a local farmer’s market as most are open on Sundays. It is a great excuse to get out of the house and you might even find some treats or knick-knacks to bring home.

My goal before the end of this semester is to make Sunday one of my favorite days and I challenge you to do the same. We are in complete control of how the day goes by and there is great potential for us to get a lot done and enjoy ourselves in the process.
