Although it may seem like Homecoming has been over for a long time, the Homecoming board is still hard at work going over what went well this year, what should be improved, appointing next year’s officers and already planning Homecoming 2012! During Homecoming week in October, many of you saw the faces of Homecoming court. You were bombarded with campaigning, saw T-shirts all over campus and may have even seen a flash mob. But do you know the face of the Homecoming Board President? The one who had a hand in putting all if it together? Well now you will because Lindsey Slaughter, co-President of Homecoming Board, is this week’s campus celebrity!
Â
Her Campus Virginia Tech: How do you feel Homecoming went this year?
Lindsey Slaughter: I think Homecoming went really well; we had a lot of people at the majority of the events, people seemed to love the giveaways and the football team ended the week with a win, which made me happy.
Â
HCVT: What was your favorite part about Homecoming?
LS: My favorite part is seeing campus decorated. The Homecoming board puts up and maintains all the decorations, and I think they really help people get into Homecoming spirit and make them aware that Homecoming week is a big week on Virginia Tech’s campus.
Â
HCVT: What’s the most challenging part of being in charge of such a large event?
LS: With such a big event, it’s hard making sure everyone is on the same page from board members, to court members, to the student body, it is the board’s job to make sure everyone is in the loop as to what is going on.
Â
HCVT: What do you hope to see for Homecoming in 2012?
LS: The main goal of Homecoming board is to see increased participation year after year. We feel it’s very important to get the whole student body involved and we want everyone to enjoy their Homecoming week.
Â
HCVT: Are you involved with anything else at Virginia Tech?
LS: I am a student worker in the undergraduate admissions office. I help people with any tasks they need completed in the office and I help put together the Yates project. The Yates project is a group of people who promote diversity and help recruit people from underrepresented areas to come to Virginia Tech.
Â
HCVT: Being a senior, what are your plans for next year?
LS: I just recently got accepted to Graduate School at Virginia Tech for accounting. So I’ll be able to stay at Virginia Tech for one more year.
Â
HCVT: Since you will be in Blacksburg, will you help out with Homecoming?
LS: Yes, I’m not sure to what extent yet, but I’ll definitely be helping out.
Â
HCVT: When you do finally leave Blacksburg, what will you miss the most?
LS: I think just being in Blacksburg. I had an internship at Disney World for a semester and I was surprised at how much I missed just being in Blacksburg.
Â
HCVT: What is your dream job?
LS: My dream job is probably being a partner at a big accounting firm.
Â
HCVT: What is your favorite part about being a Hokie?
LS: I just love the tradition. All the students, the spirit and the school, I love everything about Virginia Tech.

**Writer’s note: in the beginning of this interview, I mentioned Lindsey was co-president of Homecoming board so I know you’re curious as to who the other co-president was. Well it was none other than me! I have Homecoming board to thank for leading me to not only my roommate this year, but my best friend Lindsey!**Â
