What is the Media Mixer 2016?
The Media Mixer is a night of food, fun and the opportunity to socialize and engage with others who instill a passion for writing, journalism and other creative initiatives in media on the Virginia Tech campus.Â

Who is in attendance?Â
While much of the Her Campus team was in attendance, this year’s Media Mixer also hosted members from the Collegiate Times, Silhouette Magazine, VT VOGUE, VTTV and Sunny Murthy of The Well Dressed Student.Â
About the organizations:
The Collegiate TimesÂ
Established in 1903, The Collegiate Times is Blacksburg’s oldest newspaper with a rich sports tradition. As a student-run, bi-weekly publication with a online platform for covering the latest news, the Collegiate Times offers features, opinions, news and campus-related content.
Silhouette Magazine
As another student-run publication on campus, Silhouette aims to host a platform for art and literary submissions, including poetry, prose, photography, art and other creative works.Â
Layne, Editor-in-chief of Silhouette, said her favorite aspect of the Media Mixer was the dynamic duo game. We asked if she had any ideas on improvement for next year and her response was to invite more organizations. We hope to grow our list of attendees indefinitely!Â

VT Vogue
An online blog hosted by the Virginia Tech Fashion Merchandising and Design Society, VT VOGUE offers a platform for on-trend fashion advice and style guides for the immediate community and far beyond Blacksburg.Â
Blythe Boyd, writer for VT VOGUE said, “Overall this was a great experience, especially as a Freshman, to make connections, meet people, and learn about the other Media Organizations on campus! Thanks for having me!” You can also read her coverage of the Media Mixer on VT VOGUE.
Lissandra, Blog Coordinator for VT VOGUE enjoyed the game and hopes to see even more activities added next year!

VTTV
VTTV is Virginia Tech’s premiere television station and offers members experience in broadcasting, reporting and similar skills.
Allie from VTTV mentioned, ” It was so much fun, and I enjoyed the Instagram challenge. It was such a great night, can’t wait till next year!”

Sunny Murthy, The Well Dressed Student
Sunny started his lifestyle blog with the intention of offering polished looks for the male collegiate. Since then, he has chiefly expanded his personal brand onto Instagram and recently worked with brands like BooHoo and Timex, in addition to being a GQ insider.

Food, Fun and Socializing!
We had the privilege of indulging in something sweet, someting iced and something salty. Beverages were provided by Sparkling ICE, and snacks came from Insomnia Cookies and Skinny Pop popcorn! We want to also thank Nationals for their extreme coordinating in making these items possible.
Another big hit of the night was our Dynamic Duo game. The game involved each pair or guest to wear a wristband with the name of one half of a famous iconic duo hidden on the inside. The guests then ask others to peek at their wristband and help them figure out who they are and where in the room is the other half of their duo; but that’s not without first asking the other attendee’s name, organization they represent and their role within that organization. It’s safe to say we had many eager attendees stirring around in hunt of their match!
Taking cues from Her Campus National’s use of social incentives, we offered prizes for the best Instagram posts featuring our sponsored products. Check out some snaps from our Instagram contest with the hashtags:Â #MediaMixer2016 #TheSkinnyPop #SparklingICE #InsomniaCookies and view the rest of the event coverage in our Facebook album
Finally, in spirit of the holidays and in tribute to those much deserving, attendees wrote letters to Santa. With every letter written, a dollar is donated to the Make A Wish foundation. Â
Special thanks to our event planner, Scottie Lynch for executing this vision and Bailey Black, Vice President for organizing the social media contest! Likewise, thank you to all the organizations attending and we can’t wait to see you and more at next year’s Media Mixer!Â
