I have always wished that I was the type of person who was able to study and be productive in my own home. However, I face the constant distractions of socializing with my friends or watching hours of television or TikTok when I’m home. My mind just correlates being at home with relaxation and fun, so I’ve worked really hard to find the perfect study spot here on campus. Here are the best ones I’ve found so far!
- Torgerson Bridge
-
This one is a classic study spot for pretty much everyone here at Virginia Tech. If you know how a Torg Bridge study session feels like, you know. I come out of Torg Bridge feeling like I am not real because of how much I focus in there and how much work I get done. Any time I have a major exam, this is where I end up.Â
- University science lab building
-
This building is new, and a lot of people don’t know about it. However, the first-floor area has lots of tables and outlets, perfect for sitting down and studying. Not a lot of people know about it there, so it’s quiet and distraction free, but not as deathly silent as Torg Bridge. Plus, it’s right next to the Bus Bays, so if you live off campus, it’s the perfect place to get to quickly and start your work.Â
- Wallace Hall Atrium
-
Wallace Hall Atrium is filled with natural light and plants, making it one of the more aesthetically pleasing places on this list. It’s the perfect place to study in the wintertime if you are the type of person who likes to do their work outside. Be warned though, it gets really hot in there, so make sure you have removable layers.
- Sandy Hall
-
Sandy Hall is another one people don’t really know about. However, I used to get so much work done here. Not only are there plenty of whiteboards, study rooms, and places to sit, but it’s nice and quiet and a good environment to get work done in. I used to go there all the time freshman year, as it was right next to my dorm. Â
- Deet’s Place
-
This one is another place I went to all the time freshman year. There are plenty of places to sit on the side (my friends and I deemed this the comfy side of Deet’s) and plenty of outlets as well. I used to come here all the time because not only could I get a lot of work done, but I could also drink coffee all day! If you go here to do work, treat yourself to an iced coffee with lavender and oat milk, that was my go-to.Â
- Newman Study Rooms
-
The study rooms at Newman library are an absolute staple of mine. Not only is the booking system useful for group projects, but it’s also super useful during midterms and finals season because it guarantees you a spot in the library when it’s at its busiest. Each study room has outlets and whiteboards, and my friends and I used them all the time last year. Â
