This semester, I get to cross one off my Hokie Bucket List—taking professor John Boyer’s World Regions class. Hopefully most of you already know what I’m talking about, but let me just say, I am in his class this semester and if you haven’t taken it yet, you absolutely should! Boyer’s discussions are definitely something you don’t want to miss.
Every semester Boyer makes it a goal to get at least one celebrity or world leader to Skype with the class or attend one of our class discussions. This semester, he decided to try to get President Barack Obama to come to our class in Burruss Auditorium. This is for two reasons: one, the fact that it is election year and many of the campaign votes come from college students, and two, because if you haven’t already heard, Obama tried to go to UVA to speak and they turned him down! Boyer thought this to be nonsensical and decided it would be fun to try to get Obama to come to VT instead.
Therefore, Boyer decided to make a video to send to the president. He told the entire class to come prepared to scream and chant. Imagine an auditorium filled with 3,000 students with vuvuzela’s and American flags hooting and hollering. If that doesn’t get president Obama’s attention then I don’t know what will.
So far, the video has been released to YouTube and Boyer told all 3,000 of his students to keep retweeting the link of the video. Hopefully, this will get lots of attention from news stations so that it will eventually make its way to Obama. If any of you would like to help with Boyer’s mission, or if you simply want to watch this awesome video, you can check it out here:
