The moment we have all been waiting for, it finally snowed at Virginia Tech! Although it didn’t snow much, it was pretty exciting nonetheless.
For those of you who were up around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, the snow began and continued until late Saturday afternoon. Despite barely getting three inches of snow, the winter spirit was definitely alive in Blacksburg.
Since I just transferred here at the beginning of this semester, I’ve never experienced snow at Tech. This was exactly my first order of business when I woke up. I was set on seeing the campus, and just Blacksburg in general, covered in snow. It always looked so beautiful in pictures, I had to see it for myself.
Since my boyfriend takes meteorology here and talked to his professor about the best places to see the snow, we decided to make a day out of it.
We bundled up in our snow gear, packed some snacks and headed to campus first.
Let me just tell you, the pictures definitely do not do it justice. Virginia Tech looked absolutely beautiful in the snow. Even though there was definitely not enough snow to build a snowman or have an intense snowball fight, people were doing it anyway. The Drillfield was packed with students and families coming to see Tech covered in white. Â
After driving around campus for a bit, we decided to go snow hunting for a lack of a better term.
As suggested to us, we went to check out Blue Ridge Parkway which supposedly got some pretty significant snow. Blue Ridge Parkway was around 45 minutes away, right near Floyd, Virginia.
When we got there, we found ourselves completely shocked as the snow went almost above our boots. Also, it was freezing. We weren’t prepared at all to say the least, but we were still having a blast.
We wandered around for a bit, taking pictures of the scenery around us and enjoying the views. We were pretty cold and about to head back to the car when we randomly decided to climb a little hill to see if we could get a better view of the snow on the mountains.
To say that what we wound up seeing was a “better view” is an understatement. Although freezing and extremely exhausted from hiking up a hill in the snow, the view was nothing short of breathtaking. We got a complete 360 view of the snow-covered mountains and forests around us.
To sum it all up, I’d say that my first snow day at Virginia Tech was pretty amazing, and from the looks of all of the Hokies I saw on campus, theirs was pretty amazing too.
Hope you all had a great #VTFirstSnow!
